Timing chain kits from the Kolbenschmidt brand deliver exceptionally high product quality, with excellent durability and reliable functioning. Ultimately, they have to meet the international spare parts dealer’s stringent quality requirements. To guarantee this, all components in the timing chain kits undergo extensive functional testing as part of the quality assurance process. This includes timing chains, guide and sliding rails, tensioner blades, chain tensioners, gaskets, crank and camshaft gears, and camshaft adjusters. Critical components also undergo an endurance run. As a special service for customers, if required and if there is sufficient sales potential, individual components can also be ordered.
As a sales organisation for Rheinmetall’s aftermarket activities, Motorservice acquires a large proportion of its range internally from within the group, including the subsidiary Kolbenschmidt. This means that the internationally active spare parts specialist has the know-how and high quality standards of a large international automotive supplier.
Function
The chain drive in combustion engines transmits the rotary motion of the crankshaft to the camshafts. This opens and closes the valves at precisely the correct time. Force transmission is achieved by a timing chain, which is connected to the crankshaft and camshaft using sprockets. The advantage of timing chains over belt drives is that they are less subject to wear and ageing, and also have a higher load limit. In addition, because they are oil resistant they do not have to be attached to the outside of the engine, allowing the engine to have a shorter overall length. As they are subjected to high loads during normal operation, the quality and workmanship of these components is crucial for the safety and durability of the chain drive.
